ELECTROLYSIS - PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL (PHR)
Have you got unwanted hair?
There are numerous factors that can influence hair growth. Age, ethnicity, hormonal imbalance, diet, and certain illnesses and medications can all play a part excess hair growth.
What is Electrolysis permanent hair removal?
Electrolysis is an electrically based treatment and the only approved permanent hair removal method available for all types of hair and skin. The treatment utilizes hairlike sterile probes that are inserted parallel to the hair into the hair follicle where a small amount of alternating and/or direct current is applied which will destroy the follicles ability to produce new hairs. Electrolysis works best on the actively growing hairs and may therefore require several treatments even though small results are possible after the first treatment.
Which area can be treated?
Electrolysis (PHR) can effectively treat all types of hairs on face and body on all types of skins (face, arms, underarms, legs, thighs, breast, abdomen and back). Electrolysis has also been utilized to permanently shape eyebrows, bikini lines and beards.
How many treatments will I need?
Each individual is different, but usually a number of 5-8 treatments (2-6 weeks apart) are required, depending on treatment side and previous hair removal methods. Please keep in mind that factors like hormones, medications and genetics may influence the PHR treatment.
What to expect during and after the treatment?
A mild discomfort in form of small sting/heat sensation can be experienced during the treatment; the level of discomfort you feel will depend on the area being treated and your own level of sensitivity.
After the treatment the treated area might show minimal swelling and redness, which are normal signs whenever the skin is worked on and will subside within 30 min - 4 hours post treatment. The application of cool packs and cold compresses might speed up the process. Small scabs and pinpoint bruising are possible in rare cases but will subside within 24-48 hours.
Avoid sun exposure, hot showers, swimming, spas, vigorous exercise and anything that may cause more heat in the body. Mineral make up can be applied 12 hours after the treatment.

DIATHERMY - ELECTROSURGERY
Diathermy or Electrosurgery is a term used for the removal of benign raised skin lesions and vascular lesions via electricity.
A fine sterile needle or probe is used to cauterise and dehydrate the unsightly lesions and vessels.
With this treatment the skin’s barrier function will be disrupted and the body’s own immune system will help to remove and clear/heal the lesion, therefore you should not schedule an appointment prior to an social event; when you feel that your immunity is compromised or your sensitivity is increased (e.g. cold, flue, sinusitis, hay fever, migraine, menstruation etc.)
VASCULAR LESIONS like spider veins, vessels and angiomas will dehydrate, coagulate and be removed via immune cells and lymphatic system. This process will take 24-48 hours, but can sometimes last up to 2 weeks.
As the skin is going through the healing process it is crucial to protect it from UV exposure to avoid pigmentation and sun damage to the new skin. Please apply SPF 30 when being outdoors.
Please understand that this is an electrical based treatment and that certain conditions may be contraindicated to this treatment:

- Edema (swelling) & erythema (redness) are normal events in the treatment area and can last for 48 hours. Cool packs or cold compresses might be applied to reduce these symptoms and the sensation of heat.
- In some individuals bruising can occur when treating facial areas. (especially on blood thinning medication/supplements) If you tend to bruise easily please let your clinician know.
- The lesions may darken and flake off 24-48 hours post treatment.
- Treat the area like an open wound
- Please avoid stretching, scratching or picking of the treatment area as this may lead to scarring. Once the skin has healed and is ready for exposure the scabs will fall off naturally.
